If i cant remove it on my engine i guess I should have done a little more research before i bought the program. It works good i manage to download and upload the VCM. Just have to learn the program.
Ive tried to search the forum to find an answer. It doesn't have to be perfect, it just needs to be done in two weeks A wise man once said "google it". I just installed the HPT update that i got on mail yesterday. Maybe i got so lucky that you released an update on this the same day i was gonna start my engine. I count sheep in hex Chris, I dont see it using version 2.
A friend is programing my PCM so am getting familiar with the program using similiar files. I have the same problem with my Camaro V6 series 2 engine swap in an old Plymouth.
It fires right away and runs for 2 seconds. Clearly a fuel pump shut off due to the non existent VATS. No option NONE. So I put it on PWM.
But still the same problem. Any suggestions what else to do to make this baby run I have the newest version. All I see under system, general is vehicle and alternator. I have checked everywhere and the is no vats option. By "System", they meant "OS".I have posted on another thread that if you Forum Rules.

I have posted on another thread that if you run into this problem that you could send me a PM. But instead of replying to ALL those who have this problem, I have decided to do a write up. I just wanted to be able to use my car till I got it fixed.
I did fix the problem the correct way later. Which is by buying a new ignition cylinder and having it installed. I was lucky to have a friend install mine for free. So lets begin You need to know what resistance your key has before you even begin.
Your f body has 1 of 15 keys that operate your car. It is up to YOU to find out which of the 15 it is. The best way to do this yourself is to use an ohm reader and measure your key. I would recomend testing both keys if you have both sets to get an accurate reading. To use the ohm reader to test your key, place the readers one should be red and the other black on the metal chips of your key.
See picture. Your ohm reader will give you a measurement. Write this down. Do the same with the other key, and write it down.
If both keys are good, you should get the same reading twice. If they are different then you will need to buy two resistors, one for each key. You will have to try the bypass twice to figure out which resistor will work for you. The part you are trying to measure is the small metal piece in the black oval. Once you have the measurement go get your resistor. Price should be under 25 cents. Here are some sample resistors. Yours may be of a different color, so don't think that since yours doesn't look like this, that it is wrong.
Mine was blue in color. We carefully research, select, plan, negotiate, repair, buy, install, and service. This is where we discuss together what you're looking for. Do you just want to make a nice, reliable daily driver?

Like the topic says, car was running fine, no codesjust starts and dies like you turned the key off. I have literally changed nothingall sensors are readingfuses are fineI have fuel pressure any ideas?
I'm lost at this point. I had this same problem. What my problem was that the engine sat for so long the injectors weren't opening up so that was my issue. I have a custom sd tuneno mafruns beautifully like a normal cold startno misfires, vacuum is great. Injectors are still pushing when it dies. View Gallery.
Fuel pump? Can you check fuel pressure? Is the pump priming with the key on engine off? Quote from: cool. Wow it was flooded I guessdoesn't make sense lol car sat for like a month. Sprayed brake cleaner in the throttle body while trying to start itperfectly fine.
Guess the rotary engine is still trying to haunt this car lol. Might have a stuck injector or something then?Vats stands for Vehicle Anti Theft System.
GM 0411 PCM – 5.3 / 4L60E With VATS Deleted – LS Swap Ready
But because of the popularity of calling it a computer chip key, so will we. The black chip on the blade of the key is actually a resister. GM uses 15 different resistors in their vats keys.
The theory behind it is there, but when it comes down to swapping these into our Nissan sx, it is usually an issue since we usually buy the swap with T56, Long Block, ECU, and Wiring harness. This is a pack of resisters you solder in which give the proper resistance as the original key would to the system to allow it to start.
It usually takes some time to figure out which resistor is the right one. Very Time Consuming. This is probably one of the most cost effective vs time methods there is. Depending on the tuner again, they may change a few parameters for you since they have the ecu already. A very popular method to use it the one from wiring specialties. This method is FREE! The only part you need if a friend or someone with a early Chevy truck with a LS style engine.
Example: You get your ls1 and t56 in, you wire up the harness tutorial will come if requested and you try to start up and it starts and shuts off right away…. Lets call Tyler and get his Chevy 5. Plug yours in and bolt it back up. I got this! Have a smoke, Vape, Beer for exactly 10 minutes. At the 10 minute mark the security light should go away. Turn key off and wait 10 seconds, then proceed to the method 2 more times.General Motors produces several computer types and each is built for a specific engine group.
Some work with many engines, and some only work with one. It is very important to obtain the original computer, harness, and sensors when buying a used engine. This ensures that you have everything needed to make the swap as simple as possible. The possibilities are almost endless. The reluctor wheel setup can be changed, but it requires the corresponding computer. Gray sensors are 58x, and black sensors are 24x.
There are two main types of computers: tooth and tooth reluctor wheel engines.
GM LS Engine Swap Wiring You Can Do at Home
The reluctor wheel is mounted to the crankshaft inside the block to the rear. The crank position sensor is mounted to the rear of the block, behind the starter. As the crankshaft rotates, the teeth on the reluctor wheel interrupt the magnetic field created by the sensor. The sensor records these interruptions and sends a signal to the computer. These signals are used to detect issues, such as misfires and detonation, with the ignition system.
It is important to know which reluctor type you have, 24x or 58x.
You can tell by looking at the reluctor wheel sensor: a black sensor is a 24x wheel, a gray sensor is for a 58x engine. The pin-outs and wiring harnesses are different. This is a Camaro ECM, front and back side. This is a 58x reluctor computer; the ancillary parts are very expensive, so make sure to get all of them from the donor car. Otherwise, you will spend a lot of money to buy these components individually. Changing the reluctor wheel also requires changing the cam timing gear.
The reluctor wheel and the cam gear work in tandem to monitor the ignition system. There are several different drive-bywire pedals.
Not shown are pedals for the — Corvette, CTS-V, Trailblazer, and the rest of the trucks, which interchanged through the years. The pedals and TAC modules are a matched set.
You need both units to properly operate a drive-by-wire throttle. These throttle bodies are: — Corvette top leftVortec trucks top rightdrive-by-wire assembly bottom leftand LS2 GTO bottom right. Engines can be drive-by-cable or drive-by-wire, depending on the vehicle. The tooth reluctor wheel is found on drive-by-wire engines only. This reluctor wheel cannot be used with a drive-by-cable throttle body without modifications. If you want to run these engines with a traditional throttle cable, they need to be converted to a tooth reluctor wheel, along with a cam gear on the front of the engine and a tooth reluctor wheel computer.
Each engine uses a specific computer. If you do not have the proper computer, you can find a wide range of used LS computers from various retailers. The 24x ECMs can be programmed for either drive-by-cable or drive-by-wire.Now fuel injection is all that comes from new vehicle factories and EFI engine swaps into older vehicles are very common. It seems for many people that the scariest part of the modern engine swap is the wiring harness. These are mainly battery voltage, switched ignition voltage, PCM output to control fuel pump, and a brake switch signal for electronic torque converter control if used.
We have found LT1 Swap lt1swap. Brendan Patten runs the site and is an expert on programming many of the GM multiport injection systems. There are companies that outright sell new harnesses for LS engine swaps, and some vendors will also rework a used harness for a fee. However, with a dozen or so hours of work and your attention to detail, you should be able to rework your donor harness yourself with some basic tools.
This story is meant to give you an idea what tools and techniques are involved as we show you some work from our Chevy Tahoe harness for a 5. The process for other GM engine harnesses is similar. While it is possible to reuse a fuse block from the donor vehicle, they are often much larger and more complicated than necessary just to serve for this engine harness. What are needed are typically four power fuses and two relays to complete the standalone harness. Understand that this harness is just for engine control and does not necessarily tie into the rest of your vehicle harness.
Such outputs as the speed sensor can be used to drive an aftermarket electronic speedometer and an engine rpm signal that can run a tachometer.
Plus, today there are tablet apps that can read the OBD-II port data and display some gauge information. The earlier LS engine models were all drive-by-cable; that is, they used a traditional mechanical throttle cable. Next came drive-by-wire DBW versions that use an electronic gas pedal assembly and a servo motor mounted to the throttle body that operates the throttle plate. DBW systems on third-generation engines require you to use the gas pedal assembly and a separate throttle actuator control TAC module in addition to the PCM.
These components must be fairly closely matched by year to work properly. In most cases, it is most reliable to use components from the same year and type vehicle. In fact, pulling the engine and all related electronic components from a complete donor vehicle ensures that you have system-matching parts that will play well together. These engines can be reprogrammed to disable the sometimes problematic cylinder deactivation function, leaving all factory parts in the engine.
Patten has worked with these engines and warns that if a camshaft is changed, you must ensure that the lifters, camshaft, and AFM solenoid plate all match.
The wrong combination of parts can damage to the engine. There was also a flex-fuel version L59 of the 5. This engine used different fuel injectors and pump to flow more fuel. In addition, the PCM uses program code to read a fuel composition sensor that provides a digital pulsed signal based on the amount of ethanol in the fuel supply.
This function can be turned off in the programming and the engine run on normal non-E85 gasoline without having to change any parts. Of particular interest to those doing a harness swap for a 4WD rig is dealing with the vehicle speed sensor VSS. The PCM reads the speed of the vehicle to determine transmission shifting points. When using a computer-controlled transmission, such as a 4L60E or 4L80E automatic, you will need the VSS to properly shift the transmission. Another option is to use an aftermarket kit to place the VSS between the transmission and transfer case.
You can find more specific information about VSS function for other drivetrain configurations on lt1swap. Forums Photos Videos Industry Videos. Jay Kopycinski Photographer, Writer. Share on Facebook Share on Twitter.
